Our commitment as educators at Sacred Heart, Church Park is to provide a healthy and intellectually stimulating environment that empowers our students to grow into innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers, motivated learners, inspired and morally upright citizens who can stand up to the challenges and demands of our ever changing world.
It has been rightly said commitment leads to action.
I believe that on God’s part there is nothing accidental in the case of each student who enters my classroom.
“Commitment is what transforms a promise into a reality”- Abraham Lincoln.
When we are committed to our vision and our tasks, we develop courage, responsibility, discipline and self- motivation which in turn inspires others around us. When challenges knock at our door, a committed heart seeks solutions and an undecided heart seeks escape.
When I look around the school with all its flurry of activities and the joy of learning, I am filled with delight. To be entrusted to educate a child is a beautiful gift from God and I am always mindful of the choices and sacrifices parents make to provide their children with good education. I take seriously my responsibility as the guardian of these vulnerable and most enterprising youth and I am proud to be an educator and a mentor.
Education is the touchstone of the civilization and culture of a country and is the key to solve any problems- Personal, Professional, Social, Political, Economical, Environmental - the list is endless. I reflect on the big questions that President Obama posed for Americans in one of his speeches. How do we give everyone a fair shot at opportunity and security in our economy? How do we make technology work for us and not against us especially when it comes to solving urgent issues like the climate change? And how can we make our education reflect what is best in us and what is not? What is going to make our country better?
The mind of the human being is the manifestation of the person. Change the mind and you have changed the person. Education brings about that attitudinal change. If we work towards this goal in educating our young minds, we can achieve humungous transformation in individuals and in turn a social reformation in our society and in our world. Children must be helped to think critically on issues that have a direct effect on the people made poor and our devastated environment today.
We need to be aware that growth and time are inseparable. Today we see a culture of instant messages and instant food. Unfortunately we also expect children to produce instant results like the machines. But mental development needs time. Maturity needs time. Personalities or organizations or civilizations grow with time. Growth has to be not instant but holistic. In the pursuit of holistic development, knowledge flourishes; sorrow diminishes; joy wells up; abundance flows and all talents manifest. The whole purpose of education is to seek this holistic development, educating the whole person, impacting the head and heart and creating a more wholesome person. That’s what Sacred Heart, Church Park offers to every child that enters its portals.
My dear teachers, it takes a big heart to ignite young minds. Great teachers know that a candle loses nothing by lighting another one. Your task is to simply point the way and gently nudge the little travellers onto the right course, whenever they deviate. You must always bear in mind that education extends far beyond academics and that your mission is to inspire your students, to develop their own perspective. Teach with your heart…. teach with love. May you be that torch - bearer so that you will be able to say, with a sense of fulfilment “I entered a child, I left evolved”.
Dear students, you have boundless stores of energy, will, capability, talents, zeal, enthusiasm and the power to change the destiny of our nation. Let the spirit of curiosity and innovation drive you in all that you observe and learn. Let your education help you to question the status quo and may you redefine what excellence in education truly means. Probe deep and take that magical leap from childhood to adulthood while you always enjoy being a child of God. Nothing great has ever been achieved without enthusiasm and hard work. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in fearlessness and open - hearted vision of people who embrace life with undaunted courage and optimism. May you always experience the joy of learning from all that life has to offer outside the confines of your classrooms!
Dear parents, I thank you for your co-operation and support in all our efforts in creating a wonderful atmosphere of learning. Working together makes a big difference in the growth of your child. Having parental support and open lines of communication is an essential part of a successful academic year.
There are two motivating forces in life - fear and love. When we are afraid we pull back from life. When we have love in our hearts we are open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement and acceptance. Mother Teresa said “If you judge people, you have no time to love them”.
Let us love one another and our beautiful environment. Can we as enlightened and empowered human beings love and respect all that is part of God’s wonderful creation? Every person has the responsibility to play his or her role in lifting the consciousness of this world in promoting life. Let us work together in preserving this beautiful earth and hand it down to our future generation without further damage and destruction. Each of our lives can be either legendary or a warning. Let us make a difference by our deeds and not words. Let those who walk into our lives become better human beings. May God bless you!
