Dear Students of Std. XII,
As you stand at the cross roads and are getting ready to step out from the protected walls of your school life into the outside world that is filled with surprises and challenges for you, I wish to remind you that every single step you take now, especially the exam that is awaiting you is very vital in achieving your future goals. Becoming the very best you can be is life’s most noble pursuit. There is nothing more nobler than learning to explore the unlimited potential that lies within you and becoming the very best that you can be, The first step to a life of happiness and success is to see that your outside world begins with your inside world because today’s actions build tomorrow’s dreams.
So build your future on the foundation of spiritual and moral values taught at Sacred Heart from the very tender age of your life. Remember that no path is free of challenges and obstacles. This is the way of Nature. Little hurdles and difficulties appear to offer you opportunities to refine and expand yourself. Think of all the wonderful opportunities that your school offered you and be grateful to God for all the blessings that your school and the teachers brought to you.
Always believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities. Infinite richness lies within you if only you open your mental eyes and behold the treasure house of infinity within you. The key to success is to run your own race. Do not compare yourself and your progress to others. You are special and have your own gifts and virtues. As the ancient eastern proverb says,” There is nothing noble about being superior to some other person. The true nobility lies in being superior to your previous self”.
As a child you must have dreamt of becoming someone you admired in life. We grow great by our dreams. All big men and women are dreamers. Some of us let great dreams die, but some nourish and protect them, nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those sincerely hope that their dreams will come true someday. So don’t stop dreaming. Dream, your dreams will transform into thoughts, the thoughts will result in actions and you will succeed. I wish you today that all your dreams may come true.
The purpose of life is a life of purpose and a life of purpose is created through constant service to those around us especially the less privileged ones. No matter how much money you make, how high you rise in your career, how affluent you are in the society or how great a person you become, the quality of your life will be measured by the quality of your contribution to the society.
Purpose is the most powerful motivation in the world. The secret of passion truly is purpose. The secret of generating extraordinary levels of passion in your life is to discover your purpose. Think of people like as Benjamin Franklin, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr, Mother Teresa, Albert Einstein and Nelson Mandela who discovered a purpose in their lives and gave their lives towards achieving that purpose. Their purpose in life engaged their hearts. One of the master keys to life long success is to serve others and the quality of your own life will greatly improve. Do not let even one day slip by without practicing “acts of kindness & compassion”.
Remember the power of prayer. Great things are wrought through prayer and without God you can do nothing in life. Spend some time in prayer everyday to get in touch with the one who is the source of your being. Practice the art of stillness in this noisy world. As the Zen master once said, it is the space between the bars that holds the cage. Stillness and silence are becoming obsolete in this noisy world. Unless you make an inward within you through silence and stillness, you will never discover your true self.
Another ageless truth is to celebrate every moment of your everyday and live in the present moment because every single day is a miracle and a gift from God. Be always thankful for the blessings you receive from God and others.
Keep yourself well informed. Readers are leaders. Knowledge is power. The more you read and know, the less you fear. Don’t get addicted to man- made electronic gadgets and be a slave to the modern Technology but rather use it discretely to enhance your creative and innovative powers. Do not let your mind float like a piece of paper in the wind. Work hard to keep it focused at all times. Focus and concentration are essential ingredients of success.
Become a powerful positive thinker and rid yourself of all negative thinking. Make friends with positive thinkers and they will be a great source of inspiration for your life. Find mentors to model who will guide you in your progress. Always respect and love your parents for they have realized that their own life wouldn’t count for much unless they were able to ensure that you have every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in your life. That’s why they put you in a good school like Church Park. Love and respect your parents and take good care of them till the end of their life.
Be soft and gentle as a flower when it comes to kindness but tough as iron when it comes to principles. Be courteous and polite to others at all times. See a flower, how generously it distributes perfume and honey. It gives to all, gives freely of its love and when its work is done, it falls away quietly. Try to be like the flower, gentle and humble despite all its qualities. Dress modestly and hold yourself in dignity and self–respect. Don’t imitate people in the virtual world for most of them are deceptive. Emulate noble persons and try to become noble by adorning yourself with lasting beauty that comes from discipline and well trained character.
God is much more concerned about your character than your career, because you will take your character into eternity, but not your career. Character is both developed and revealed by tests and all of life is a test. Remember that your character is the sum total of your habits. Every problem is a character building opportunity and the more difficult it is the greater the potential for building spiritual muscle and moral fibre. What happens outwardly in your life is not as important as what happens inside you. Your circumstances are temporary, but your character will last forever.
I wish you good luck in your exams and the very best in life. Thank you for the joy you brought in to our lives through your vitality, creativity and talents. Fly high now to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and language that keep us away from seeing the best in each other.
Remember that this world can be made into a better place especially for the ones who are deprived of their joys. Ask yourself ‘what can I do to the world’. All great leaders, thinkers and humanitarians have abandoned selfish lives for selfless service and in doing so, found all the happiness, abundance and satisfaction they desired. Joy comes from giving. What you are in God’s gift to you and what you become is your gift to God.
These are the things I wish for you as you leave us, that you grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help to build that world. The celebrated inventor Thomas Edison is well known for his statement “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration”. While I believe that hard work is essential to a life of real success and fulfillment, I think that being filled with a deep sense of commitment and inspiration to making a difference is an even more important. We are proud of you and love you and we will miss you. May God bless you and take care of you as you step out of the protective and loving arms of your dear alma mater.
Thank you and God bless you.
